Obituary

Woody Willis Jr., 66, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Carteret Health.

A memorial service to honor Woody’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, October 29th at Munden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Woody was born on December 3, 1959, in Morehead City, North Carolina, to the late John Willis Sr. and Catherine Willis.

Throughout his career, Woody worked as a skilled carpenter, specializing in trim work. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing, and had a special interest in collecting coins. A dedicated NASCAR fan, he enjoyed following the races and sharing the excitement with those around him. Woody also loved cooking and making delicious meals for his loved ones.

Woody was rarely without his two beloved dogs, Molly and Dolly, affectionately known as his “baby girls,” who were always by his side. Above all, Woody treasured time spent with his family who he loved dearly.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Joyce Willis; son, Ray Willis (Valarie) of Mill Creek, NC; sisters, Sheila Townsend, Deborah Cosgrove, and Kathy Berry, all of Newport, NC; and brothers, Leon Willis of Florida and Freddy Willis of Morehead City, NC.

In addition to his parents, Woody was preceded in death by his sisters, Dolly Eubanks, Peggy Dolgas, and Johnice Wess.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences at www.mundenfuneralhome.net.
