William Porter Wilson, Jr., known as Porter, passed away on October 5, 2025, at the age of 81 in Morehead City, NC. Born on May 2, 1944, in Annapolis, MD to Bill and Eleanor Wilson, Porter was a standout basketball player at Annapolis High School and the younger brother to his spirited sisters, Mary and Wilma.
A small memorial was held on Tuesday, October 7.
Porter is lovingly remembered by his children, Will and Ginny, and their families, including five grandchildren and three spoiled grand dogs. He shared Will and Ginny with his first wife, Alice, and remained a devoted father throughout their lives—rarely missing a game, concert, or event, always showing up with pride and support.
In 1994, Porter married Lou in Washington, DC. They moved to Morehead City in 1996 and ran Arts & Things, a waterfront shop known not only for its framing and art supplies but also for its friendly canine greeters—Shiloh Shepherds, Labs, and Golden Retrievers.
Porter gave generously to his community. He served as President of the Chocolate Festival and PAWS, was a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International, and co-founded what is now the Downtown Morehead City Main Street Program.
He enjoyed golf with family and friends, especially with Lou, who often bested him—despite his proud hole-in-one on the 16th hole at MCCC in August 2020.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Mission of Carteret County in Porter’s memory, 1209 Arendell Street, Morehead City, N.C. 28557.
