Bruce Styron, 77, of Morehead City, North Carolina passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023, at his home surrounded by his wife and daughters.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 27th, at Munden Funeral Home.
Bruce was born on July 13, 1946, to the late Thelma and Hugh Styron, Sr. of Atlantic, North Carolina. He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1964 as part of a class of 27 students. Bruce went on to attend the Apprentice School at Cherry Point. He retired after 39 years of civil service and then began his second career of cutting grass with Double S Lawncare, and oystering.
In his free time, you would find Bruce driving his boat, the Hanilyah in Core and Bogue Sounds. Bruce was creative and enjoyed drawing and crafting. He loved exploring and searching for the best hot dogs or BBQ. He believed that one person’s trash is another man’s treasure. He loved family time, especially spending time with his nieces and nephews. He loved to cook, never followed a recipe, and believed in at least three meals a day. Everyone felt sorry for Bruce with a wife and three daughters, but he was meant to be a girl dad.
In May 1977, he met his “Pamepooh” on the Ocracoke Ferry when they both were on a weekend trip with friends. After three attempts, Pam finally accepted Bruce’s marriage proposal and they were married in 1978.
In addition to his wife, Pam of 45 years, he is survived by three daughters, Hannah Symonds and her husband, Jon of Raleigh; Emily Styron of Morehead City; and Sarah Compton and her husband, Adam of Wake Forest. He has six grandchildren, Jack Hugh, Andrew Bruce, Isadora “Izzy” Gray, Gabrielle Victoria, Julia Grace, and Grant William. He is also survived by his younger sisters, Esther “Pearl” Merrell and Eura “Eukie” Lawrence, and sister-in-law, Mary Anna Styron. He was predeceased by his older brother, Hughie Styron, Jr.
Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences at www.mundenfuneralhome.net.
