William Arthur Meadows Sr., 69, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Carteret Health Care.

A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 26th at Gethsemane Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, September 25th at Munden Funeral Home.

William was born on November 23, 1956, in New Bern, North Carolina, to the late Paul Meadows Sr. and Pearl Bell.

William proudly served his country in the United States Navy. His service was an important part of who he was, and he carried the discipline, dedication, and strong work ethic he developed in the Navy throughout the rest of his life. Following his military retirement, William continued to stay busy through his own painting business, which he thoroughly enjoyed and took great pride in.

William was happiest when he was outdoors and staying active. He enjoyed working in his yard, cutting the grass, creating beautiful landscaping, and tending to his garden. He also loved to fish and rarely missed an opportunity to cast a line.

William attended St. James United Methodist Church. His kindness was evident in the way he lived his life, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

More than anything, William loved his family and friends. He treasured the time he spent with those he loved and will be remembered for his kind heart, hardworking spirit, and the many ways he cared for others.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Deneen Meadows; children, Mandy Smith (Bryan Duker) of Hardy, VA and Jonathan Meadows of Newport, NC, along with their mother, Merita Gail Payne; daughters, Barbie Griffith of Beaufort, NC, and Bridgette Knapp (Michael) of Newport, NC; sons, William "Billy" Meadows Jr. of Wilmington, NC, and Austin Fulcher of Newport, NC; brother, Paul Meadows and wife Carol of Havelock, NC; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Meadows.
