CW04 William Graham Jones, Sr. (USCG, RET), 74, a proud Veteran of the United States Coast Guard, passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side on Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
Graham was born November 9, 1948, in Greensboro, NC, to the late John A. Jones and Margarette T. Hardy Jones. He resided in Reidsville, NC until he graduated from Reidsville High School in the class of 1967. He attended East Carolina University before enlisting in the United States Coast Guard in 1969, retiring in 1999 after serving 30 years. He worked at Christopher Newport University as an adjunct stage professor.
Graham enjoyed making people happy and always had a bright blue-eyed smile to offer. He enjoyed his seafaring days and participating in Pirate Festivals and historical re-enactments along the East Coast as William Dampier.
Always learning and developing new skills, he was interested in pottery and became a well-known potter, as well as a Master Gardener.
Graham was a Mason in the Ocean Lodge in Morehead City, a member of the St. Johns Commandery No. 10 Knights Templar in New Bern, and a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in New Bern.
Graham is survived by his wife, Sondra P. Reed; children, William Graham Jones, Jr. (Marissa), Temesia A. Jones, Claire M. Jones, Jordyn Reed (Jamie), Taylor Olden (Kevin), Lauren Carter; grandchildren, Hayden, Harper, Beau, Banks, and Hudson; brother, Alexis Jones; and his faithful dog, Bogue.
His life was richly blessed with his loving family and friends. More than anything else he loved being a Papa. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren who brought him so much joy.
