William Stanton Ellis, peacefully passed away at his home in Emerald Isle, North Carolina. He will be forever in our hearts and deeply missed.
A memorial service to honor Bill’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Emerald Isle Baptist Church.
Bill was born in St. Paul’s, NC, to the late William and Elizabeth Ellis. He was known for his charm and impeccable style, earning the title of “Best Dressed” during his high school years. He continued his education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he played on the school’s football, basketball and golf teams. Bill later became the Dean of the Realtors Institute of Chapel Hill.
Bill enjoyed a thriving career in real estate. His love for exploring properties and his keen intuition truly made him excel in his profession. Bill lived by the motto, “Work hard and save your money,” a principal that guided him throughout his life.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Bill served his country during the latter part of World War II. His exceptional skills in operating crash boats and navigating watercraft were notable aspects of his service which he carried throughout his life.
Bill was married to Grace Hardison, the love of his life. They celebrated 75 wonderful years of marriage together, enjoying travel and their beach house in retirement before she preceded him in death.
His deep faith and love for the Lord were the cornerstones of his life. Bill was a dedicated member of Emerald Isle Baptist Church where he was a servant leader, actively participating in various church ministries.
Bill’s love for the coast and passion for fishing is what drew him to the Crystal Coast where he and Grace settled in Emerald Isle. His happy place was at the water, surf fishing and sound fishing where he enjoyed the thrill of the catch and peacefulness of the waves around him. Bill also had a creative side which was seen through his love of building. He poured his heart into every project and crafted something special every time.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Stanton Thomas and her husband, David Thomas, and their children, Lindsay and Warren, and their respective families.
