William “Bill” Evans Chamblee, 81, of Morehead City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2026, surrounded by his family.

A memorial service to honor Bill’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 14 at Crystal Coast Worship Center, officiated by Pastor Paul Loftin. A reception will follow after the service.

Bill was born on May 13, 1945, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to the late Dr. John Chamblee and mother, Willie Evans Chamblee. Bill’s kind and gentle heart were an example to us all. A constant in his life was a love of nature. He also loved hiking trails and nature photography.

Bill graduated from Nashville High School. He earned a degree in chemistry at Barton College. He worked at Hercules Chemical Company for many years and traveled extensively through his work. Bill will be remembered with love and cherished in the hearts of those who knew him.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Shirley Hunter Overcash Chamblee; sons, William “Bill” Evans Chamblee Jr., James Michael Chamblee; step daughters, Dawn Rolston, Denise Dailey; brothers, John and Van Chamblee; sister, Helen Chamblee Goodman; and his best friend, Pastor Paul Loftin.
