Walter “Wally” Ehrhardt, 86, of Princeton, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Carteret Health Care.
A graveside service to honor Wally’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 30th at Bizzell Grove Memorial Gardens in Princeton, officiated by Pastor Marvin Ownley.
Born on September 8, 1939, in New York City, New York, Wally was the son of the late Karl and Irma Ehrhardt. He spent many years on the road as a dedicated truck driver with Red Star Express, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. Never one to sit still, he also worked hard snow plowing, in the cold northern winters.
In his earlier years, Wally enjoyed duck hunting. He had a creative side as well, he enjoyed painting gnomes, delighting in the whimsical garden décor they added to his surroundings. A true collector at heart, he amassed license plates from every state in the U.S. Wally had a lifelong love of vehicles and traveling, and together with his wife, he fulfilled a shared dream of visiting every state in the continental United States.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his son, Walter S. Ehrhardt (Karen Aycock) of Atlantic Beach, NC; granddaughter, Zoye Ehrhardt Jones (Davie Oliver Jones III) of Princeton, NC; and great-granddaughter, Kennedie Ann Jones of Princeton, NC.
In addition to his parents, Wally was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon Ann Ehrhardt.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the Johnson County Animal Protection League, P.O. Box 607, Smithfield, NC 27577, please include that the donation is in memory of Wally Ehrhardt. Donations can also be made online at jcapl.org.
