Virginia "Jenny" Ann Hill Spencer

Virginia “Jenny” Ann Hill Spencer, 74, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

Virginia, known to family and friends as Jenny, was born on August 12, 1951, in Morehead City, NC, to the late Mack and Carlie Hill. In her younger years, Jenny loved to dance and carried that joy with her throughout her life.

She had an outgoing personality, never met a stranger, and had a special way of making everyone feel welcome. Jenny loved the challenge of a good puzzle and was an avid reader. After losing her eyesight, she continued her love of books by listening to audiobooks.

Jenny was a devoted and supportive Coast Guard wife, not only standing by her husband but also offering guidance and support to many of the younger service members along the way.

More than anything, Jenny loved her family—especially her grandchildren, each of whom she proudly claimed as her favorite.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Jerry Spencer; daughter, Andrea Davis of Morehead City, NC; sons, James Daniel Spencer of Knoxville, TN, and Benjamin “Benny” Clayton Guthrie of Morehead City, NC; grandchildren, John Michael Singletary Jr., Tyler Keith Singletary, James Michael Guthrie, Sabrina Rhayne Guthrie, Benjamin Clayton Guthrie Jr. and Kenneth Gabriel Spencer; and 4 precious great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Jenny was preceded in death by her granddaughters, Grace Spencer and Haley Guthrie.
