Vincent Joseph Martin Jr., 79, of Morehead City, NC, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024, after a brave fight.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 23rd at St. Egbert Catholic Church, presided by Deacon Jim Strange. Interment, with military honors, will follow at 1 p.m., at Seaside Memorial Park in Swansboro.
Vincent was born to Vincent Sr. and Arlene Martin in Trenton, New Jersey, where he graduated from Notre Dame High School. He would then enlist in the United States Army. Vincent served his country with distinction in Southeast Asia as a first lieutenant in the 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division — known as “the Wolfhounds”. His service continued after his honorable discharge: Vincent worked tirelessly to help secure a $200 million settlement for his fellow veterans who suffered from the effects of Agent Orange and later served on the board of directors of the Veterans Leadership Program.
In 1970, Vincent married Mary Danchak, and they remained married for over 50 years. He graduated from Seton Hall University and, with Mary, raised three boys, Vincent III, Thomas, and Daniel. Vincent served at high levels in the financial industry, with executive positions at Drexel Burnham Lambert and Meyers Pollock Robbins.
Vincent was a wonderful storyteller and possessed a brilliant mind. Both qualities, and so many others, enthralled his loved ones and strangers alike. He was a kind, curious, and open man with a true love for life, though that love was occasionally challenged by his passions for golf and the New York Jets. He took great pride in his adopted hometown of Morehead City, and greater pride in his children and especially his grandchildren.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary; his children, Vincent III and Thomas; his siblings, Terence, Michael, Eileen, and Theresa; and his grandchildren, Matthew, Saoirse, and Charles.
Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences.
