Vilma Lewis Morris "Tink" 86, born July 25, 1939, passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of April 26, 2026.
A memorial service to honor Vilma’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 9th at Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends the evening prior from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, May 8th at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City. For those unable to attend, the funeral service can be viewed through her obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. Vilma will be laid to rest privately at the Willis Family Cemetery in Smyrna.
Born and raised in Smyrna, NC, Vilma was the middle child of six. On March 26, 1955, she married the love of her life Mitchell Morris from Atlantic. Together they had three children and were married just shy of 58 years.
Vilma worked as a Supervisor at Blue Bell or commonly known as "The Shirt Factory" for 18 years until she retired in the 1980's. In retirement she spent her time with her family and grandchildren and went on many adventures. From New York to Hawaii, Mexico, the Bahamas, even Bourbon St., New Orleans to Alaska, she enjoyed time spent with family and friends. She also purchased a 14ft Southern Skimmer that she'd take out in Jarret's Bay to clam alongside her sister.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She was so proud of them all and would tell everyone about their achievements, even if you had just met.
As a teen she played basketball at Smyrna High School and in adulthood played softball right up until she turned 50! She rarely missed the opportunity to view a game or performance of her grandkids and great grandkids.
A lifelong member of Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church, she served as the choir director for over half her life, trying to retire twice, and even served as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon. She loved her church family and enjoyed an annual fall trip to Myrtle Beach with the ladies.
Vilma is survived by her children, Randy Morris and Sonjia Garner with husband Robin; her grandchildren, Henry Guthrie II and wife Kim, Desmond Garner and wife Kari, Dexter Garner and wife Brandie, Misty Parrish and husband Justin, Shanna Rose, and Timothy Trout; and her great-grandchildren, Elli (21), Alise (18), Harrison (16), Alexandria (14), Aubrey (14), Isaac (13), Henry III (12), Hindrix (9), and Calvin(8).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clenn and Merle Lewis; her 5 siblings, Slyvia "Sister", Travis, Sherwood, Clenn Jr. and Thomas "T.L."; her husband, Mitchell Morris; and her daughter, Cheryl.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 120, Smyrna, NC 28759; Down East Girls Softball League, or Down East Cal Ripken Baseball, P.O. Box 244, Smyrna, NC 28579.
