Velma Louise Holland, 77, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Carteret Health Care.
A gathering of family and friends to honor Velma’s life will be held from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., Monday, June 16th at Munden Funeral Home.
Born on May 22, 1948, in Cherry Point, NC, Velma was the beloved daughter of the late Charles and Effie Ramsey. She proudly graduated from West Carteret High School with the Class of 1966, being the second group to graduate from the school. Velma continued her education at IBM School in Greensboro and dedicated her professional life to a long and fulfilling career as a Program Analyst with Civil Service at Cherry Point.
Velma lived life to the fullest. She had a passion for music and dancing, particularly enjoying shaggin’ to her favorite beach tunes. She was a devoted supporter of the UNC Tar Heels, she also cherished moments spent with friends, relishing her Bud Light and satisfying her sweet tooth with chocolate treats. Velma loved dogs whose faithful companionship and constant happiness always put a smile on her face.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her beloved daughter, Cristina Gordy of Morehead City; sisters, Marisa Ramsey (Daniel Garner), Getitia Reigner (Bobby), all of Newport; granddaughter, Ansley Willis of Beaufort; niece, Sara Reigner; and her sidekick her dog, Holly.
In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ted Holland.
