Valerie Hill Kinch, 85, of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Carteret Health Care.

Valerie was born on June 22, 1939, in Boston, Massachusetts, to the late Joseph Fredrick Hill and Marion Louise (Dolan) Hill. She grew up in Glastonbury, Connecticut with her older sister, Audrey. Valerie met the love of her life, John Bennett Kinch II, at Hawks Nest Beach in Old Lyme, Connecticut. They both attended the University of Miami before coming home to raise their family. 

Valerie raised four children in Willimantic, CT, who were only 2 years apart in age. She loved raising her kids. As they got older, Valerie was active in Women’s Right Movements, as she was involved in the initial Women’s Conference in Hartford CT. Professionally, Valerie worked in sales and was very successful in her endeavors. 

Valerie volunteered her time and was involved in many youth activities including the start of the youth cheerleader program for The Youth Football League in Willimantic, CT. She loved the beach life in Rhode Island, creating many family memories such as spending time with friends, flying kites, four-wheeling, and listening to Fleetwood Mac Rumors album. Valerie enjoyed collecting and preserving Dorchester pottery and various other family heirlooms from her extended family throughout the Massachusetts area. 

After the kids moved out, John and Valerie moved to Germantown, TN. Valerie has a strong circle of friends that truly made Germantown special. After John passed, Valerie moved to Beaufort, NC to live near her oldest daughter, Shelly. Valerie loved entertaining, spending time with her kids and grandchildren, and loved her husband, John. Valerie will be truly missed as a caring friend, loving mother and proud grandmother. 

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her children and their families, daughter, Shelly (Kinch) Brannan and husband David and their children, Stormy Brannan, Carlos Brannan, Selena Brannan, all of Beaufort, NC; son, John Bennett Kinch III and wife Shelly and their children, Taylor Kinch, and Alivia Kinch, all of Frisco, TX; daughter, Robin (Kinch) Wiener and husband Mark and their children, Benjamin Wiener and Samuel Wiener, all of Rockville, MD; daughter, Tracy (Kinch) Henderson and husband James of Old Saybrook, CT, and their children, James Henderson and his wife Allison of Frisco, TX, and Katherine Henderson of Old Saybrook, CT; sister, Audrey (Hill) Eckert of York, PA; and 3 nephews and 2 nieces.

In addition to her parents, Valerie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Bennett Kinch II.

The family will celebrate Valerie’s life in the summer of 2025.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Valerie’s memory to the American Heart Association.
