Atlantic Beach

Thomas J. Henley, 89, of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Carteret Health Care, surrounded in the love of his family.

Tom was born on February 2, 1936, to the late William and Esther Henley. He grew up in Williamsburg, Virginia. After a year at Virginia Military Institute, he proudly served in the US Marine Corps. Returning to Williamsburg, he began hotel work at the Williamsburg Inn, moving on to the Grand Bahama Hotel, and then the Velvet Cloak Inn in Raleigh. After getting married, he worked at North Carolina National Bank (later to become Bank of America) until retiring to Atlantic Beach and ending his career at the Windjammer Inn.

Tom took great joy in the beauty of God's world, not only in his own backyard, but in his travels to many countries. He enjoyed the variety of other cultures and the company of fellow travelers.

Tom is survived by Kay, his wife of 59 years, a son Scott (Brian), a daughter Carol (Robin), two granddaughters, Alex and Gracyn, and two grand dogs, Soto and Bear.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Bill.

The family is extremely grateful to the staff at Carteret Health Care for the loving care given to Tom.

Because of his love of our military, donations in Tom's memory could be made to Semper Fi & America's Fund who care for our Nation's critically wounded, ill, and injured service members, veterans, and military families. Donations can be sent to 825 College Blvd. #102, Oceanside, CA 92057.
