Thomas Michael
Brown
February 10, 1947 — June 18, 2026
Norman Family Home
4:00 - 7:00 pm (Eastern time)
Thomas Michael Brown, 79, of Mill Creek, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., Saturday, June 20 at 210 Murdoch Road in Newport.
Born on February 10, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Thomas was the son of the late Bernard and Wilma Brown.
A proud veteran, Thomas honorably served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he built a successful career as a machinist which later led him into Civil Service at MCAS Cherry Point. During his time there, he served as president of IBEW and took great pride in representing and advocating for his fellow workers through The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Thomas was known for his intelligence, integrity, and unwavering sense of right and wrong. He never hesitated to stand up for what he believed was just, whether he was defending a family member, supporting a coworker, or helping a stranger in need.
A gifted handyman, Thomas seemed capable of fixing anything and earned the well-deserved nickname "Mr. Fix It." He was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time in nature. He also loved watching classic westerns, especially those starring John Wayne.
With his white beard and warm demeanor, Thomas was affectionately known as "Santa" by his family. Children would often excitedly approach him in stores, convinced they had met the real Santa Claus. The nickname suited him perfectly, as he had a gift for making people laugh and bringing smiles to those around him. Even during his final days, his quick wit and humorous remarks continued to lighten the mood and lift the spirits of others.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Jeanne Brown; daughter, Sarah Norman of Newport, NC; sister, Judith Ann Fellerman of Indiana; and grandsons, Noah Allen and Nicolas Allen.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Jean Ward.
