Obituary

Sylvia Styron English, 88, formerly of Carteret County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28, 2026, at her home in Eagle River, Alaska.

A funeral service to honor Sylvia’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 10th at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, NC. Interment will follow at Bayview Cemetery in Morehead City, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Sylvia was born on March 9, 1938, in Raleigh, NC, to the late Thomas and Okaneal Styron.

Sylvia had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and found joy in the simple beauty of nature. She loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time watching and feeding the birds. Her curiosity and adventurous spirit also took her far beyond home. She loved to travel and especially treasured her safaris in Africa, where she was captivated by the beauty and wonder of the landscape and wildlife.

Sylvia was never one to shy away from an adventure. Whether she was four-wheeling, snowmobiling, traveling to faraway places, or simply enjoying the outdoors, she embraced life with a sense of curiosity and excitement.

More than anything, Sylvia loved her family. She treasured the time they spent together and found her greatest joy in being surrounded by the people she loved.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her loving husband, William Douglas English II; daughter, Sylvia English of Anchorage, AK; son, William Douglas English III and wife Mimi of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Corey Allen English, Sheryl Jean Alexander and William G. English; and great-grandchildren, Hunter Holder, Chase Holder, and Hailey Holder.

In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her siblings, Vinola Hickman and Woody Styron.

As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome.
