Susan Norman Craver, age 79, of Morehead City, NC, passed away on September 10, 2025, after an extended illness.

A memorial service to honor Susan’s life will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, October 12, at First Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Patrick Whaley. A private family inurnment will follow at the columbarium at the church.

Born June 21, 1946, Susan was raised in a Christian home, and attended the First Baptist Church of Henderson, NC. She attended public schools in Henderson and graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC with a major in Religious Education and minors in Elementary Education and Social Studies. She taught school in Tarboro, NC and in Morehead City, NC at Parkview Baptist preschool, and at St. Egbert’s Catholic School where she taught second grade for 35 years.

She leaves behind a legacy of learning and love of education to the hundreds of students she taught during her career. She leaves an indelible love of learning to her granddaughter Elise because of the individual early childhood education lavished on her only grandchild.

Susan was a people person and had numerous friends, acquaintances, and her beloved church community. She loved nothing more than keeping up with her friends’ family news and stories, and spending time with her close friends. She also had a love of family genealogy and spent countless hours researching and creating files about ancestry.

Susan was a member of the First Methodist Church of Morehead City, NC since 1976. She was a member of the handbell choir (Bells of Praise) for 38 years. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible school and volunteered with the church preschool and daycare, where she loved to read to the children. In addition, she served as the Columbarium committee chairman for 20 years.

Susan is survived by her husband of 57 years John Wade Craver (married 1968), daughter Kathryn Jane Lindsay (Robert), daughter Elisabeth Chaney Craver Moore (Alan), granddaughter Maya Elise Denmon, brother Larry Ellis Norman (Alice), nephews Jamie Norman and Blair Norman, beloved cousin LouAnn Dinkins, and many other relatives.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents James Ellis Norman and Chaney Fowlkes Norman, as well as a brother Jimmy Norman.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations or offerings be made to the Handbell Choir at First Methodist Church, 900 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC 28557.
