Shirley Barbour Cheek

Shirley Barbour Cheek, 90, of Morehead City, North Carolina, peacefully departed her earthly body on June 19, 2025, at her home with her family by her side.

A private family service will be held to honor Shirley's life. She will be laid to rest privately at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Shirley was born on December 31, 1934, in Durham, NC, the only daughter of the late Leamon Brosia and Narcissus Jones Barbour. She grew up in Durham where she attended public school and graduated from Bethesda High School.

During the summer of 1954, Shirley met her lifelong sweetheart, Randall Cheek, in Kure Beach, NC. In January 1955, they said "I do" to one another and started their lives together. Little did they know that they would be blessed with 70 years of marriage. In 1961, they decided to move to Beaufort, NC after Randall accepted a position with the National Marine Fisheries Service. In 1961, they built a home in Morehead City where Randall currently resides.

Shirley had an incredible green thumb and spent countless hours tending to her beautifully manicured yard, where many flowers bloomed and local birds were frequent visitors.

She had a deep love for her family and treasured the time spent with them. Shirley was a member of Parkview Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery for many years.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her husband, Randall; son, Tim Cheek (Angie) of Morehead City; daughter, Pam Fallin (Snug) of Morehead City; grandchildren, CJ Fallin of Pikeville, and Courtney Cheever (Tommy) of Newport; and great grandchildren, Bailey Renfrow and Macon Cheever.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her brothers, Billy Hamilton, Leamon Brosia Barbour, Jr., and William Earl Barbour.
