Shelvey Funai Lloyd, 87, of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Cherry Point Bay Nursing Home. She made her journey to be with our Lord, and we can only imagine the reunion in heaven.
A memorial service to honor Shelvey’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, December 5th at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, officiated by The Reverend Tammy Lee. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall following the service.
Born on December 15, 1937, in Halifax County, Virginia, Shelvey was the cherished daughter of the late Cedric and Helen Short. Shelvey was a beautiful Christian woman and a devoted member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She held the important role of head of the Acolytes, assisting clergy during worship services and nurturing her strong Christian faith.
Shelvey was the definition of a true southern lady, classy and always dressed to the nines. You never knew what she was going to say next, she kept everyone on their toes and always told you like it was, never sugar coated it. She had a love for jewelry, clothes, plants, traveling, baking (especially chocolate chip cookies), sewing, her cat Tiger, her family and friends, and so much more.
A devoted wife and mother, Shelvey was first married to Richard Carter Funai. Following his passing, she showed remarkable strength as she raised their children into adulthood, providing unwavering support throughout their college years. Later in life, Shelvey found love once again and married Clarence “Bob” Lloyd, which further enriched her family bonds.
Shelvey's family was the cornerstone of her life. She will be lovingly remembered for her unwavering support and devotion as mother, as well as her deep love and adoration for her grandchildren who lovingly called her “Nanny”. She never missed a birthday, a day out at Shack or fishing, cheering on her loved ones, going on shopping trips and all of life’s big events. Shelvey’s warmth and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter, Anne Funai Page (Hoke) of Newport, NC; sons, Richard Carter Funai Jr. (Kelly) of Wilmington, NC; stepdaughter, Susan Lynn Lloyd of Newport, NC; stepson, Robert Lowell Lloyd of Newport, NC; former daughter-in-law, Penny Funai of Wilmington, NC; sister, Barbara S. Dell’Aria of South Boston, VA; sister-in-law, Brenda Short of Virginia; grandchildren, Austin Ray Nalley, Sailor Elizabeth Funai (Josh), and Ana Shelvey Page; great-grandson, Mason Banks McFann; and her beloved cats, Tiger and Meow.
In addition to her parents, Shelvey was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 35 years, C. Robert Lloyd, who passed away in August of 2025; her first husband, Richard Carter Funai; daughter, Jean Funai Nalley and her husband Donnie; brother, Thomas E. Short; and brother-in-law, Arthur Dell’Aria.
