Sandra Willis Guthrie

Sandra Willis Guthrie, 75, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2023, at Carteret Health Care.

A memorial service to honor Sandra's life will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, September 25th at Salter Path Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. David Bratton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through her obituary page on Munden Funeral Home's website. Born on January 13, 1948, in Morehead City, North Carolina, to the late Veto and Rita Willis, Sandra was a vibrant soul who embraced life with a beautiful smile that lit up any room she entered. Her love for children knew no bounds, as she devoted countless hours to creating cherished memories with her and her beloved grandsons.

Sandra had a zest for life that led her to find joy in simple pleasures. She often delighted in nature's wonders, spending peaceful moments clamming along the shores and absorbing the serenity of the sound. Sandra's appreciation for beauty extended to the delicate fluttering of butterflies, which never failed to fill her heart with wonder. She had a deep bond with her loyal dog, who brought her immeasurable joy and companionship throughout the years. And of course, her fondness for the iconic Mickey Mouse brought a sense of childlike enchantment to her life.

Sandra was a beacon of warmth and kindness, with a genuine love for people that transcended any boundaries. She possessed the remarkable ability to make connections effortlessly, quickly turning strangers into friends. Her compassionate nature touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed her path.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her children, Dana Avery and husband Keith of Newport, Samuel "Little Sammy" Guthrie Jr. of Morehead City, and Troy Guthrie and wife Julie of Newport; sister, Paula O'Neal and husband Tom of Swansboro; grandsons, TJ Guthrie Jr. and wife Sabrina and Vincent Avery; great-grandchildren, Daphne Lupton and Laine Lupton; and nephews, Kory O'Neal and Tommy O'Neal.

In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved husband Samuel "Big Sammy" Keith Guthrie Sr. in 2011; son, Vincent Kory Guthrie; and sister, Beverly Kay Willis.
