Samuel “Little Sammy” Keith Guthrie Jr., 58, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at his home.

Little Sammy was born on July 9, 1967, in Morehead City, NC, to the late Samuel Keith Guthrie and Sandra Willis Guthrie. Little Sammy was raised in Salter Path and grew up with a deep love for the water and coastal life. He became a highly skilled commercial fisherman, spending countless hours on the water he loved so much. Later, he turned his talents to carpentry, where his craftsmanship and attention to detail did not go unnoticed.

Little Sammy had a natural way with people. He loved to socialize, share stories, and make others laugh. His carefree nature and ability to live in the moment were part of what made him so special. He had a deep appreciation for music, especially the sound of the 80’s. Little Sammy cherished his family. He was the pride and joy- the apple of the eye – of his beloved grandmother and mother, who held a special place in his heart. He will be missed for his warm personality and the way he made others feel welcomed and valued.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his sister, Dana Avery (Keith) of Hubert, NC; brother, Troy Guthrie (Julie) of Newport, NC; aunt, Paula O’Neal (Tommy); cousins, Tommy (Ashley) and their 4 children, and Kory O’Neal (Ashleigh) and their 2 children; and nephews, TJ Guthrie and Vincent Avery.

In addition to his parents, Little Sammy was preceded in death by his brother, Kory Guthrie; uncle, Hugh Thomas Guthrie; and his grandparents.
