Ronald Shayne Masten, 55, of Beaufort, NC, passed away on August 5, 2025, after a brief stay at Crystal Bluffs Health Care Center.
Born with a big heart, an easygoing spirit, and a love for the simple joys in life, Shayne lived each day with authenticity and warmth. He was a devoted friend to many and a loving brother, son, and uncle. Whether he was riding around on his John Deere tractor, cranking up some Jimmy Buffett or Alabama tunes in his tiki bar, or cheering on his Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints, Shayne knew how to enjoy the moment — and how to bring others along for the ride.
Shayne was born in Winston Salem, NC and moved to Yadkin County when he was four years old. He lived there until he was 20 when he moved back to Forsyth County. At the age of 30, he and his family moved to Beaufort, NC part time and then made Beaufort his full time home in 2006. He attended Forbush Elementary School, Booneville Elementary School, and South Park High School where he had many wonderful teachers throughout his educational experience. He loved to build things and woodworking was his favorite class.
Shayne leaves behind a loving family who will miss his humor, hugs, and big smile: his parents, Ronnie and Jan Masten; his sister, Missi Foster and her husband Jim; his niece, Rachel Foster; and his nephews, Benjamin and Jacob Foster. And we can’t forget Winston, his loyal golden retriever and best buddy. He also leaves behind many devoted friends and extended family whose lives he touched throughout his journey.
Shayne was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Virginia Stephenson and Leola Masten, both of whom had a special place in his heart.
A celebration of Shayne’s life will be held at a later date — and in true Shayne fashion, it will be full of music, memories, and laughter.
In the words of Jimmy Buffett, “If we couldn’t laugh, we would all go insane.” Shayne reminded us all how to laugh, how to live, and how to love the ride.
Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital which was dear to Shayne’s heart or Beaufort by the Sea Community Church where he was a member.
