Rocky Vern Taylor, 67, of Gales Creek, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Crystal Coast Hospice House.

His memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 30th at Munden Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest privately at Gethsemane Memorial Park.   (See the link below for the Service Bulletin.)

Rocky was born on January 13, 1956, in Morehead City, North Carolina, to the late Early and Rosa Taylor. From an early age, Rocky’s musical talent was exceptional. With the guidance and support of his father, Rocky could play the guitar by the age of 10 and happily spent all his spare time playing and singing. His ultimate dream was to sing in Nashville, Tennessee. As he got older, that dream came to fruition when he and the band he was playing in had the opportunity to perform. While they didn’t win first place in the competition, that didn’t discourage him or his love for music. Even after the bands dispersed, he continued to pursue his love of music, spending time with his close friends, playing, and singing. When he wasn’t making music, he’d fill his time by painting houses. As he got older, the climbing got to be too much, so he resorted back to his love of music.

Simply put, music made Rocky happy. He had a love that never died, even when he was sick. God saw that his health was failing and knew that it was time for him to go to his heavenly home. Now Rocky is singing for Jesus and we can be sure that if there’s a guitar in heaven, Rocky will be playing and singing with all his might. Rocky, keep singing and praising the Lord!

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his sister, Anna Finch of Holly Springs, and his faithful friend, caregiver, and former wife, Sherri Taylor of Gales Creek.

In addition to his parents, Rocky was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Taylor.
