A memorial service to honor Robert’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 29th at South Banks Community Church in Morehead City, officiated by Pastor Dennis Evans. The family will receive friends following the service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.
Robert was born on August 27, 1944, in Elizabeth City, NC, to the late Henry Frank Whitehead and Thelma Jennings Whitehead.
Robert was well loved for his infectious smile that could light up any room. Known for his unwavering optimism, he often remarked, “It’s a beautiful day, the birds are singing, it’s a beautiful day.” His love for the Lord was seen in everything he did, and he was a faithful member of South Banks Community Church where he valued his Church family. Gospel music held a special place in his heart and always lifted his spirits.
A faithful patron at Banks Grill, Robert, enjoyed the start of his mornings there, where his friendly demeanor made him like family to both the employees and customers. Each week, he would cheerfully remind everyone, “Ok remember, I won’t see you Tuesday, I won’t see you Wednesday, but I’ll see you Thursday.” And of course, he always looked forward to seeing everyone the rest of the week. His mornings on Tuesday and Wednesday were often spent nearby at Dunkin Donuts. After breakfast Robert would head over to Lowe’s Grocery Store, where he would relax in the rocking chairs with a Diet Coke, always welcoming passersby with a friendly smile. Robert loved telling stories with his favorite quote being, “long time ago”.
Robert will be remembered as a loving brother and wonderful uncle to his family, including his brother, Edward Whitehead and his wife Gloria of Newport and loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Lola Whitehead, and brother, William Whitehead.
