Robert “Cherokee” Neander, 78, of Newport, North Carolina passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026, at his home.

Robert was born on September 9, 1948, in Bronx, New York, to the late Robert and Estelle Neander. He was a hardworking man who lived life to its fullest. Robert loved riding his motorcycle and spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. A true sports fan, he especially enjoyed watching football, basketball, and baseball, with a particular fondness for Carolina sports.

For more than 50 years, he took great pride in his work as a paint contractor, building a reputation for his dedication and craftsmanship. When he wasn’t working, he could often be found enjoying one of his many passions, watching and caring for the birds around his home. Robert especially enjoyed seeing the bluebirds and hummingbirds each day. He treasured time spent with his friends and family the most. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his sisters, Doreen Elizabeth Schoen (Timothy) of Wilson, N.C., Dorothy Jean Favinger (Michael) of Wilson, N.C.; and brother, Gerald H. Neander Sr. (Vicki) of Little Egg Harbor, N.J.
