Havelock

Robert “Charlie” Colón, 70, of Havelock, North Carolina, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 30, 2024, from a brief battle with cancer.

Charlie's memorial service, with military honors, will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, August 2nd, at Brice's Creek Bible Church in New Bern.

Charlie was born on May 8, 1954, in Brooklyn, New York to Miguel Angel Colón and Norma Valez. He graduated from New York Schools and achieved his Associate Degree in Science from The University of the State of New York.

Charlie was a career Marine for 30 years. He served as a drill instructor for 3 tours, and at the end of his career as the II MEF Sergeant Major at Camp Lejeune, NC.

Whenever Charlie was greeted and asked “How are you?”, his reply was always “Better than I deserve.”

Charlie liked to travel. He loved his sports, especially college basketball and March Madness, always rooting for his favorite team, Duke. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially spending Sunday afternoons together with a great meal. He loved to cook Puerto Rican food. He had great moves and loved to dance. Most of all he loved Jesus. His faith was strong even at the end. He was ushered into Heaven with his family around him singing Amazing Grace and his legacy will live on through the people he loved!

Charlie is survived by his wife, Terri Colón; daughters, Nerrine Colón and Robyn Colón Fritscher (Joshua); mother, Norma Torres and stepfather Bert Torres; brothers, Miguel (Jackie) Colón and Arturo Colón; sister, Linda Ramos (Frank); grandchildren, Alyssia Colón Cafferello (Michael), Jaden Vasquez, and Jeremiah Hall; along with numerous loving nieces, nephews, stepchildren and grandchildren.

Charlie is predeceased by his late wife, Patricia Colón; father, Miguel Angel Colón; daughter, Clarissa Colón; and brothers, Raphael Colón and Rick Colón.
