Robert Lee Brooks Jr., 80, of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, October 20, 2025, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
A memorial service to honor Robert’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, November 6th at First Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Patrick Whaley. The family will receive friends following the service.
Robert was born on September 7, 1945, in San Diego, California, to the late Robert Lee and Dorris Cline Brooks. He grew up in Raleigh. Robert graduated from Needham Broughton High School, class of 63, and went on to earn his BA from North Carolina State University. Robert was a lifelong member of the Wolf Pack club and had season football tickets that he generously shared with family.
For over 20 years, Robert worked at Hoffman & Hoffman, Raleigh, handling industrial hvac sales. Then seamlessly eased into retirement at the Crystal Coast. He divided his time amongst golf, choir and Habitat for Humanity. Most importantly Robert loved his family. He and Jo burned up the miles to be at every graduation, wedding and family get together.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Jo Cherry Brooks; his children: daughter, Jennifer and Mark Epley of Annandale, VA; son, Robert Lee Brooks III of Raleigh; stepchildren, Bobby and Jana Harris of The Villages, David and Celia Harris of Ramseur, NC and Brig and Mary Katherine Harris of Travelers Rest, SC ; siblings: David and Ellen Brooks, Raymond and Betty Brooks, and Liz and Bill Shaffer. In addition to his 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the choir of First Methodist church, Morehead City or Crystal Coast Habitat for Humanity.
