Obituary

Robert Milan Blake, 85, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Carteret Health Care.

A memorial service to honor Robert's life will be held at St. James United Methodist Church in Newport. Service details will be shared once finalized.

Born on March 8, 1941, in Raleigh, NC, Robert was the son of the late Russell Herman Blake and Sarah Milan Blake.

Robert lived a life marked by quiet strength, service, and unwavering faith. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he was part of the original Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT)-an elite and courageous group tasked with dangerous reconnaissance and beach obstacle demolition missions. His service placed him among the earliest pioneers of what would later become the Navy SEALs, a distinction he carried with humility and pride.

After his time in the military, Robert continued his life of service through his work in Civil Service, where he retired from. A man of many talents, he was also a skilled and respected master electrician, always willing to lend a hand and share his knowledge with others.

Robert's heart for people was evident in his faithful role as a chaplain with the American Legion, where he offered comfort, prayer, and support to fellow veterans. He was also a devoted Mason, valuing fellowship, integrity, and tradition.

Above all, Robert loved the Lord. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he was a dedicated member of St. James United Methodist Church. He will be remembered for his steady presence, kind spirit, and deep commitment to serving both his country and his community.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Joan King; brother, William Russell Blake and wife Brenda Jewell of Sea Gate, NC; along with his stepdaughters, and several nieces, nephews and grandchildren,

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Blake and son, Robert Earl Blake.
