Obituary

Rita Jo Lindsey, 63, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026. A woman of profound faith, boundless generosity, and deep devotion to her family, Rita leaves behind a legacy of love that will be cherished forever by those who knew her.

A service celebrating Rita’s life and faith will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Munden Funeral Home, located at 2112 Arendell St, Morehead City, NC 28557. Interment will follow at Cannady Cemetery in Newport. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. For those unable to attend, the funeral service can be viewed through her obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website.

Born in Gary, Indiana, on August 9, 1962, Rita was the daughter of the late Roy Oliver Bittle and Mary Helen Bittle. She was also preceded in death by her husband Paul Lindsey, her sister Sherry House, and brother-in-law Lonnie House.

Rita was a faithful and active member of Community Baptist Church, where she joyfully lived out her faith. She possessed a true servant’s heart and was always looking for ways to feed and comfort others. Whether she was cooking a warm meal for someone navigating a difficult time, volunteering to bring food for Wednesday night Bible Study, or eagerly anticipating her favorite event of the year, working the annual Sportsman’s Feast, Rita’s love was best expressed through her open kitchen and giving spirit.

Beyond her ministries, Rita was a source of immense inspiration to her family. Demonstrating remarkable resilience and a lifelong love for learning, she went back to college in her sixties to work toward a degree, proving to her children and grandchildren that it is never too late to pursue your goals. Her life was anchored by her favorite scripture, Proverbs 3:5-6:

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

Her greatest joy, however, was her family. She is survived by her siblings, Russell Bittle and Mary Woods. She was the proud mother of Daniel Bittle Lindsey (Charity), John Lindsey (Cara), and Serah Countess. She was the cherished grandmother of Raymond Boughton, Cheyenne Nuckles, Carrie Bittle Lindsey, Lucas Post, Alexia Locklear, Aryhanna Locklear, Zoe Lindsey, and Darci Lindsey, and a beloved great-grandmother to Wyatt Bittle Lindsey, Journey Nuckles, Azazel Nuckles, Lincoln Nuckles, Oakley Bunker and Rowen Bunker.

In honor of Rita's generous spirit, flowers and donations may be sent directly to Munden Funeral Home.
