Rex Allen Styron

Rex Allen Styron, 64, of Cedar Island, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023, at ECU Health Medical Center.

A graveside service to honor Rex’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, November 16^th at Cedar Island Community Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Nelson Koonce. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 15^th at Cedar Island Methodist Church.

Rex was born on December 19, 1958, in Morehead City, NC, to the late Curtis and Ruth Styron. His life’s career as a commercial fisherman meant long yet rewarding hours on the open waters. Always happy with the big catch and ever ready for the challenge of doing it all over again. Rex just loved being on the water and clamming when he had the chance. When he wasn’t busy on the water you could find him shooting pool.

In the vast seas of eternity, our beloved fisherman sails on, casting lines among the stars and finding peace in the waters above.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his close and dear friends, Renee and Tracy Hill of Cedar Island; brother, Jeffrey Styron of Cedar Island; sisters-in-law, Irvina Lawrence of Newport, NC, Lynn Lewis of Newport, NC, and Vickie Baysden (Lee) of Zebulon, NC; several nieces and nephews; and two special nephews, Corey Lewis of Newport, NC, and Shawn Lewis (Megan) of Beaufort, NC.

In addition to his parents, Rex was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Reva Louise Wheeler Styron; brothers, Sammy Styron, and Curtis Lee Styron; and sister, Dora Styron Stark.
