Rebecca "Becky" Hobgood

Rebecca “Becky” Hobgood, 72, of Morehead City, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at her home.

An informal gathering will be announced at a later date.

Becky graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor’s degree in Math and a master’s degree in Psychology. She came to Carteret County in the late 1960’s and taught at Head Start before owning and operating Our Place in Atlantic Beach for almost 40 years. She was an active member of her community and participated in politics, including being Commissioner of Sanitation.

Becky was a smart and well educated free spirit that will be missed.

She is survived by her sister, Kathy Pratt and husband, Milton, of Morehead City and one niece.

She was preceded in death by her significant other, of 27 years, Kevin Barbour; parents, Norman and Fannie Draper; and special pets, Bonz and Ozzie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Carteret County Humane Society at 853 Hibbs Rd., Newport, NC 28570.
