Phyllis Sally
Root
January 9, 1931 — July 1, 2026
Phyllis Sally Root (Braymiller), 95, of Havelock, North Carolina, formerly of Oneida, New York.
After a long battle with dementia, Sally Root went to her heavenly home on July 1st with her loving family by her side. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt, Sally was born in Buffalo, New York to the late Orville and Alma Braymiller. She married the love of her life, Clinton DeWitt Root (Bud) in 1950. They shared a wonderful life for almost 65 years until Bud’s passing in 2015.
Sally and Bud lived a very active life and loved all things “outdoors,” especially snow skiing, hiking, camping, and perhaps their favorite, boating on Lake Erie and in the Adirondack mountains. She was a gifted seamstress, and no project was too challenging from boat sails, wedding gowns, to upholstery. Above all she was a devout follower of Jesus Christ in whose arms she now rests securely.
Sally leaves behind her adoring family, daughters, Gretchen Foster (David) of New Bern, NC, Gail Eisele (Mark) of Havelock, NC, Greta Spenard (Joseph) of Syracuse, NY. Her grandchildren, Joshua Foster, Zachary Foster (Ali), Abigail Eisele, Matthew Ethan Eisele, Eric Eisele, Luke Johnson (Stephanie), Nate Johnson (Audrey), Eliza Johnson, Kendra Briggs (Richard); great grandchildren, Parker Foster, Ella Foster, Anaka Foster, Liesel Foster, Eliotte Foster, Amelia Foster, and Gabriel Johnson. She is also survived by her treasured nieces and nephews.
The family thanks all who offered help, support, and prayers during Sally’s decline. We thank the Oak Grove Methodist Church. Last but not least our wonderful caregiver Donna Marie Powell deserves our deepest gratitude along with the team at Craven County Hospice: Erica, Karen, Angel, and Nancy.
There will be no calling hours or services per Sally’s request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sally’s memory to Craven County Hospice, 2818 Neuse Blvd., P.O. Drawer 12610, New Bern, NC 28561.
