Peter Jay Guerry Sr. passed away peacefully in Newport, North Carolina, on Saturday, September 19 at the age of 86.

A funeral service with military honors to honor Pete’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 24 at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Philip Chryst and Pastor Tom Supplee. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Pete will be laid to rest with Masonic Rites at Amariah Garner Cemetery following the service.

Peter “Pete” was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on January 13, 1940. While young, his family moved to Chincoteague, Virginia. There he met his lifelong love, Linda. They wed in 1959 and remained committed to one another in marriage for 67 years. They grew their family to include three children, Petey, John, and Kimberly.

Pete honorably served his country as a proud Marine. He enlisted at the age of 17 and retired after 22 years of dedicated service. After his retirement, he worked another 20 years supporting operations at the Naval Aviation Depot in Cherry Point, NC.

Beyond his work, Pete was a Freemason who served as the Secretary of the Newport Lodge #706 for 15 years. He also served as Past Master and as District Deputy. He mentored fellow Masons over several decades and supported Masonic and Shriner causes by volunteering his time at countless events.

Pete was an exceptional “Mr. Fix It” who loved spending time in his workshop. He enjoyed woodworking, building and repairing items, and speaking with people from around the world through his ham radio. Pete’s generosity, dependability, and big personality earned him many friends over the years.

Those remaining to cherish Pete’s memory are his wife, Linda; his son, John, and his girlfriend Cathy; his daughter, Kimberly Hicks, and her husband, Clay; six grandchildren, James, Angel, Nikita, Cora, Nate, and Seth; six great grandchildren; sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

Pete was preceded in death by his mother, Estelle Cerasoli; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Daisey; brother, Joseph Abell; and his son, Peter Jay Guerry, Jr.
