IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peggy Hannah
Decker
January 3, 1941 – March 22, 2026
Peggy Hannah Decker, 85, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
A private graveside service will be held with family at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Peggy was born on January 3, 1941, in Brace, Tennessee, near Lawrenceburg, to the late Otha and Lois Hannah. She attended Summertown High School, where she played both basketball and softball and was voted the most athletic. Her love of sports continued throughout her life, and many knew her through softball-whether playing, umpiring, or coaching.
She earned her associate's degree in Radiology and went on to have a fulfilling career as a registered radiology technician and mammographer-a profession she truly loved and took great pride in.
Peggy had a vibrant and joyful spirit. She loved working in her yard, decorating for every holiday, and filling her home with warmth and beauty. She especially loved music, with a deep appreciation for gospel and country. Above all, Peggy loved her family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a personality that brought laughter and light to those around her.
She shared 67 devoted years of marriage with her beloved husband, Fred E. Decker, Sr., of Newport, NC. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Janet "Janie" Decker (Cliff), Fred E. Decker, Jr. (Tammy), both of Newport, NC, Lisa Decker Watts (Grady) of Helena, MT, and Kimberly Decker Lee (John) of Rutherfordton, NC. She is also survived by her loving cat, Romeo, who truly lived up to his name.
Peggy was a proud grandmother to Paige Guthrie, Dani Jones, Michael, Mason and Jacob Decker, Zach Watts, and Hannah and Thomas Lee, and a cherished great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Carol Ann Hannah.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her three brothers and six sisters.
Peggy will be remembered for her love of family, her joyful spirit, and the warmth she brought into every life she touched.
