Obituary

Patricia “Pat” Ann Yates, 74, of Hubert, North Carolina, passed away at her home on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

A gathering of family and friends to honor Pat’s life will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., Wednesday, September 9th at Munden Funeral Home. Pat will be laid to rest privately at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Pat was born on July 9, 1952, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late McDonald and Marguerite Nelson.

Pat lived life on her own terms and was never one to apologize for being exactly who she was. She truly didn’t worry about what others thought—she simply followed her heart and enjoyed life her way. She was known for always having a smile on her face, and her beautiful, contagious laugh had a way of brightening even the hardest of days. Pat had a naturally nurturing heart and found great joy in caring for others. She was affectionately known as the “grandma of the neighborhood,” always ready with a helping hand, a kind word, or a little extra love for anyone who needed it.

And while Pat loved her people deeply, it was often joked that she might have loved animals even more. She had a special place in her heart for every kind of animal and never seemed to meet one she didn’t adore.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mona Beth Swartz of Lexington, KY; son, Donald Yates; sister, Donna Huston and husband Barry of Hubert, NC; niece, D’Stonya Connell of Hampton, GA; and nephew, Darrin Christian of Beaufort, NC.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in Pat’s memory to your local animal shelter.

Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences at www.mundenfuneralhome.net.
