Norman “Norm” Ralph Jackson passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, in Morehead City, North Carolina, surrounded by his four daughters and family members.
Norm was proud to be almost 89 years young. His parents welcomed him into the world on March 18, 1937. Norm was raised in the Appalachian Mountains in Richwood, West Virginia, which shaped his love for family, community, sports, music, and his endearing sense of humor.
After graduating from West Virginia Institute of Technology where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1963, he began a long career specializing in radio frequency management and problem solving for the U.S. Department of Defense worldwide. He had the privilege of co-creating a radio frequency tool for managing war zones. After retiring from the Naval Air Systems Command in 1993, he returned to work as a civilian contractor, officially retiring in 2001.
Norm was a natural talent and excelled at everything he did. His passions included playing anything with strings, piano, golf, basketball, archery, bowling, ping pong and shooting pool. Over the years, he found great enjoyment in teaching these cherished pastimes to anyone. We'd be remiss if we didn't acknowledge his love of animals, especially his dogs, Major, Thelma, Louise, and Sally, who all rest in peace.
Norm’s greatest pride was his family. He leaves behind his children, Paula Mills (husband Greg Mills), Elana Jones, Lisa Amos (husband Gra Amos), Donna Brooks (husband Patrick Brooks); 13 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents, George and Sally Jackson; his brothers, Charles and Donald; his sister, Elaine Travis; and his son, Jeffrey Norman Jackson.
A remembrance and celebration of life will be held on June 6, 2026, in Craigsville, WV. Further details will be shared once finalized.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Broad Creek Fire Department, 3010 NC-24, Newport, NC 28570 or Carteret County Humane Society, P.O. Box 357 Newport NC 28570.
