Norma Jean Chelgren Alexew

Norma Jean Chelgren Alexew, 90, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at the Croatan Ridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Norma Jean was born on November 8, 1932, in DuBois, Pennsylvania, to the late Harold and Arlene Chelgren. As a registered nurse, Norma Jean blessed numerous lives with the skill and the special care she gave to each of her patients.

Norma Jean was a devoted Christian woman and a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she enjoyed singing in the choir.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter, Amalia Alexieff of New Bern, NC; sons, George Norman Alexieff (Deborah Wise Grant) of Beaufort, NC, Illya Alexieff of Raleigh, NC, Christian Alexieff (Elizabeth) of West Nyack, NY, Eric Alexieff of Brooklyn, NY, Peer Alexieff (Florence) of Middletown, NJ, Harold Alexieff of Providence, RI, and Rurik Alexieff (Claudia) of Sloatsburg, NY; siblings, Harold Chelgren of Phoenix, AZ and Janet West of DuBois, PA; 17 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Alexew.
