Muriel E. Flanigan

Muriel E. Flanigan, 93, of Havelock, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, peacefully at her home.

A Celebration of Life service will be planned at a later date.

Muriel was born on December 18, 1929, in North Bay, Nipissing, Ontario, Canada, to the late Hugh and Alice Owen. She spent many years working for the Northern Ontario Railroad in Canada. Muriel met the love of her life, John, and eventually moved to Havelock. She enjoyed being a member of the Irish Club in New Bern, and the Yacht Club in Havelock.

One of her favorite pastimes was attending the local VFW with her husband, which she did for many years. Muriel enjoyed practicing Tai Chi, she found it relaxing. She also had a love for books. Her many talents included the amazing meals she would cook for her family. Muriel will be forever cherished as a loving wife of 63 years, mother, and grandmother.

Those left to treasure her memory are her husband of 63 years, John B. Flanigan Jr. of the home; daughters, Laura Ryals (David) of McLeansville, N.C., and Leigh Anderson (Eddie) of New Bern, N.C.; son, John B. Flanigan III of Havelock, N.C.; and sister, Hilda Bennett of London, Ontario, Canada.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Hugh Owen and Philip Owen; and grandchildren, Patrick and Rebecca Ryals.
