Minnie Frances Compton, 84, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
A funeral service to honor Minnie’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 15th at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Chaplain Rick Brooks. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at 2 p.m., at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
Minnie was born on January 11, 1941, in Rocky Mount, NC, to the late Charlie J. Raynor and Lillian Ramsey Raynor.
Minnie loved to sing and during her childhood years she, along with her sisters, Martha and Joyce formed The Raynor Trio. They frequently sang at prayer meetings and were requested to sing at an Oliver B. Greene Tent Revival Meeting in Rocky Mount, NC. They also appeared in several talent shows.
Minnie attended West Edgecombe High School in Rocky Mount, NC. During her high school years, she was actively involved in several clubs and was on the Yearbook staff, where she contributed her artistic talents to the school’s publication. She later enrolled at Carteret Community College, where, under the guidance of John Alpar, she refined her skills as a professional artist with a concentration in oil painting.
She was also part-owner in a successful HVAC business and started Mini Designs, a home craft and décor store. She enjoyed learning about antiques and later sold them in her booth at the local Trash and Treasures in Morehead City, NC.
Throughout her life, Minnie created many priceless masterpieces for her family, including portraits, nautical landscapes, animal paintings, floral works, and images of Gibson Girls. After 9/11 she was inspired to create an annual Christmas card featuring snowmen that honored the fallen, the first responders and the United States Military. These cards are treasured by all who received them.
Minnie enjoyed spending time with her family, especially around the holidays and hosted several Christmas Parties throughout the years. She loved presenting the dishes that she spent hours in the kitchen preparing for her family and friends to enjoy. Another tradition that she held dear was the reading of the Christmas Story from Luke chapter 2 about the birth of Jesus.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her loving children, Teresa Compton Arthur and husband Dave of Warrenton, VA, Ronald Keves Compton of Newport, NC, Anna Michelle Lester and husband Darryl of Hope Mills, NC, Regina Frances Parnell and husband Steve of Swansboro, NC, and Allison Raynor Hardy and husband Shon of Bluffton, SC. Minnie also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, and extended family to include cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Minnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Richard Compton Sr. and her sons, John Richard Compton Jr. and William Charles Compton.
