Michel Tannous Chaanine

Michel Tannous Chaanine Sr., 85, Morehead City, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025, at Carteret Health Care.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 11 from 3-4 p.m. at Munden Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service to honor Michel will be private.

Michel was born on December 15, 1939, in Beit Meri, Lebanon, to the late Tannous and Rose Chaanine. A hardworking and passionate man, Michel was best known as the owner and operator of Mike’s Restaurant in Beaufort for over 20 years. He also ran Rap’s Restaurant for 19 years and managed the Budget Inn Suites in Havelock and a hotel above Mike’s Restaurant for 20 years. Through his businesses, he became a familiar and friendly face to many in the community.

Michel had a deep love for cooking and was especially known for his authentic and flavorful Lebanese cuisine. His kitchen was his happy place, making memories with each dish. When he wasn’t cooking, Michel enjoyed cheering on his favorite team, Duke basketball. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic and devotion to those he loved.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his sons, Michel Chaanine Jr. (Candice), Johnny Chaanine (Tess); brother, Sassine Chaanine; sisters, Jacqueline Saade, Therese Aoun; grandchildren, Addison, Kennedy, Andrew, and Eleina.
