Obituary

Michael “Woo” Wooten, 50, of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2026.

Born on July 12, 1975, in Morehead City, NC, Michael was known and loved by family and friends simply as “Woo.” He was a hardworking man with a strong work ethic and exceptional talent in boat building. Through years of dedication and skill, he worked his way up to a management position, earning the respect of those who worked alongside him.

Woo embraced life with enthusiasm and never hesitated to be himself. He was a devoted NASCAR fan and especially admired the Earnhardt family. He enjoyed the excitement of horror movies, with A Nightmare on Elm Street always ranking as a favorite. He took great pride in his tattoos and loved hearing the stories behind the artwork others chose to wear.

Living along the Crystal Coast suited him perfectly. He loved being on the water, fishing, spending time at the beach, and enjoying the salt life he loved so much. And nothing was better than a trip to Bojangles and an ice-cold Mountain Dew which were among life's simple pleasures that always brought a smile to his face.

Above all else, Woo loved his family. His children, granddaughter, and loved ones were the center of his world, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

Woo lived by the famous sayings, “Ain’t Skeered” and “Raise hell, Praise Dale” which reflected the way he approached life: fearless, loyal, spirited, and unapologetically authentic. He lived life at full throttle, embracing every adventure and challenge that came his way.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his children, Melody “Poogie” Wooten and Riley “Bubbers” Wooten, both of Beaufort, NC; his mother and stepfather, Karen and Donny Brooks of Beaufort, NC; his sister, Angelia Robinson (Luther) of Down East, NC; his beloved granddaughter, Coraline “Blookie” Wooten; his nephews, Donovan Johnson (Melissa Sanderlin) and Jonathan “Doobie” Sanderlin; his very close family friend, Timmy Guy; and his former wives, Katherine Perry and Holly Clingan, who he remained close with throughout the years.

Woo was preceded in death by his father, Edward Earl Wooten; his beloved grandmother, “Grandma Grace”; and his uncle, Danny “Bubba” Wooten.
