Michael "Mike" Halsey Thompson

Michael “Mike” Halsey Thompson, 75, of Carolina Pines, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Cherry Point Bay Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service to honor Mike’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 22nd at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, officiated by Pastor Johnnie Wright II. Interment will be held at a later date at Gethsemane Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday, November 21st at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City. 

Mike was born on October 22, 1949, in Cherry Point, NC, to the late Elmer “Tom” Thompson and Jean Sherburne White. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University, where he showcased his talents as a member of the LSU Golf Team. His love for golf remained a significant part of his life, as he continually worked to perfect his game, achieving multiple club championships at Carolina Pines.

In addition to his accomplishments in sports, Mike is fondly remembered for his over 30 years of dedicated service to the Havelock community, through his role as Branch Manager at First Citizens Bank of Havelock.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving daughter, Elizabeth Riley and husband Brendon of Morehead City, NC; grandchildren, Davis Riley of Morehead City, NC and Edith Riley of Morehead City, NC; siblings, Steve Thompson of Tuscarora, NC, Karen Thompson McDonald of La Quinta, CA, and Mark Thompson and wife Gail of Havelock, NC; and special friend, Yvonne Denton.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents.
