Michael “Mike” Eugene Sowers, 78, of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at Carteret Health Care.
A memorial service to honor Mike’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 23 at Munden Funeral Home. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Mike was born on February 10, 1948, in Noblesville, Indiana, to the late Wayne and Helen Sowers. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, a chapter of his life that reflected his dedication and sense of responsibility.
A hardworking and independent man, he was mechanically minded and had a natural talent for building and fixing things. He especially enjoyed working for himself as a carpenter, taking pride in his abilities and the satisfaction of a job well done.
Those who knew Mike will remember him as a dedicated man who took his responsibilities seriously. He was also blessed with a wonderful sense of humor and a personality that made him fun to be around. Mike knew how to enjoy life, whether he was playing cards with friends, heading out for a good meal, catching a movie, or reminiscing about his younger days spent dancing. He especially enjoyed a game of poker, where he appreciated the challenge, strategy, and concentration it required.
Mike leaves behind a family who will cherish his memory and the moments they shared with him. Those remaining to honor his life are his children, Mike Sowers Jr., Brian Sowers, Paul Sowers, David Sowers, Julia Sowers, and Cynthia Perkins; his sweet companion, Cynthia Bradshaw; his siblings, Marsha Pruitt, Phil Sowers, and Patti Lupton; and his grandchildren, Alivia Deoliveira, Poppy Bryant, Olivia Perkins, Brianna Kimbrell, and Logan Perkins.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Arlene Sowers; his second wife, Tina Banders Sowers; and his siblings, Danny Sowers and Linda Taylor.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Veterans Services Office, 3615 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC 28557.
