Michael P. Hansen “Mike”, 83, of New Bern, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 7th, 2024 in his home, following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Mike was born on May 20th, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY. He grew up in Plandome, NY and Chicago, IL. He attended Indiana University, receiving both his undergraduate degree and his MBA while also meeting the love of his life, Margie. Mike and Margie were married for more than 60 years.
A consummate businessman, Mike achieved success in both the corporate and private sectors, working in Massachusetts, Canada, Nebraska, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. After selling his business in Pennsylvania and “retiring” at the age of 50, Mike relocated with his family to eastern North Carolina, where he continued his passion for entrepreneurship by launching a business with his children and assisting them in their own ventures.
A lifelong avid golfer and boater, Mike could often be found either searching for the elusive, award-winning blue marlin or improving his handicap on the greens.
In addition to his wife, Margie, Mike is survived by his son, Todd Hansen, his daughter and son-in-law, Kristi and Trey Humphrey, his daughter and her fiance, Heidi Hansen and Gianfranco Michelini, his sister, Linda Berry, and his grandchildren, Hailey Humphrey, Aria Hansen, Stone Hansen, Justus Hansen, and Samantha Hansen.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Julius Paul “Mike” and Gladys VanDyke “Happy” Hansen, and his grandson, Emery Humphrey.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 18th, at South Banks Church, 5386 Hwy. 70 W, Morehead City, NC 28557.
