Michael Donahue

October 27, 1960 — February 10, 2026

Michael Donahue, 65, passed away on February 10, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and unforgettable home-cooked meals.

A graveside service to honor Michael’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 27th at Bayview Cemetery in Morehead City, NC.

Born on October 27, 1960, to John and Mary Ann Donahue, Michael grew up as a proud military brat, shaped by the strength and discipline of his father’s service in the United States Marine Corps. That foundation stayed with him throughout his life: steady, dependable, and fiercely devoted to the people he loved.

For more than 28 years, Michael faithfully served the North Carolina Department of Revenue, building a career defined by integrity, work ethic, and quiet dedication. He showed up every day with consistency and pride, earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike.

At home, Michael was the heart of the household, especially in the kitchen. He proudly claimed the title of household cook (often joking that Theresa “couldn’t compete”), and his legendary chicken and pastry — or chicken and dumplings, depending on who was asking became a favorite. Food was his love language, and everyone lucky enough to sit at his table knew it.

Michael had a deep love for golf so much so that when he wasn’t on a course, he created his own. The backyard and garage transformed into makeshift fairways and putting greens, a testament to his playful spirit and creativity. He found joy in gardening, cooking, and spending time with friends, especially his lifelong best friend, Mike, whose brotherhood spanned decades and countless memories.

More than anything, Michael loved his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Theresa Donahue; his daughter, Sarah Donahue; his three sisters, Joanna Bunting, Sallie Donahue and Erin Walsh, his beloved Aunt Jeanette Morris and many cherished extended family members and friends who will forever carry his stories, his humor, and his steady presence in their hearts.

Michael will be remembered as the kind of man who made ordinary days feel special. He was dependable in a way that made people feel safe, funny in a way that made rooms lighter, and generous in a way that made everyone feel welcome. He leaves behind not just memories, but golf balls still tucked in corners of the garage, and a lifetime of inside jokes that will keep him close.

His was a life well-lived, deeply loved, and impossible to replace.
