Michael “Mike” Colbert Sr., 70, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026, at his home.
A memorial service to honor Mike’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 31st at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. John Carswell. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Mike was born on October 10, 1955, in Seymour, Indiana, to the late Esther M. Schafer. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for over 20 years, a commitment that reflected his love for his nation. Following his military career, he continued his dedication to public service, working in civil service for more than 20 years.
Mike was a man who loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and hunting for food, never for sport, and deeply respected nature. He was a proud member of the American Bass Anglers, a membership he held since 1987. Mike was a valued member of the Moose Lodge, where he enjoyed hanging out with his friends. Known for his quick wit and storytelling, he was a great joke teller who could always bring laughter to those around him. May Mike be remembered for his integrity, humor, and love for his family.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Diana of the home; son, Michael Colbert Jr. (Amy) of Alabama; brother, Edward Colbert (Chris) of Texas; heartfelt brother, George Yeager Jr.; step-daughter, Angela Robson (Jake) of Canada; step-son, Sir Phillip Tubell (Ursula) of Florida; and grandchildren, Aila, Vienna, Wyatt, Sophia, Bruce, and Jedidiah.
In addition to his mother, Mike was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Bennett.
As an expression of sympathy, the family welcomes cards, messages of love, and donations to assist them during this time. They can be sent to Munden Funeral Home, c/o The Colbert Family, 2112 Arendell St., Morehead City, NC 28557.
