MGySgt Scott Menger (USMC Retired), 76, of Havelock, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025, at his home.
His memorial service, with military honors, will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 1st at First Methodist Church of Havelock. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through their obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.
Scott was born on September 8, 1948, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Laverne William Menger and Dolores (Menger) Pendowski. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps for over 30 years, achieving the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. Scott was a steadfast and respected leader, known for his discipline, loyalty, and deep commitment to his fellow Marines. Throughout his service, he was stationed at various locations, including Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, where he remained an active member of the base chapel community.
After retiring, Scott worked for the Craven County schools, where his wife jokingly referred to him as “The Lunch Lady” which was all in good fun! Scott and Diane shared over 35 years together where he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, and sharing stories from his days in service. Scott will be remembered for his sense of duty and the love he poured into his friends and family.
Those left to treasure his memory are his loving wife, Diane of the home; daughter, Sheri Menger Mitchell of Havelock, NC; sons, Stanley Menger of Havelock, NC, Terry Menger of Havelock, NC, and Brian Maness (Beth) of Morehead City, NC; sisters, Deb Tieman of Pewaukee, WI, and Lori Schneider of Calabash, NC; grandchildren, Amber Mitchell, Nathan Mitchell, Lillie Maness, and Levi Maness; and great-grandchildren, Izaiah Mitchell and Aubree Mitchell.
In addition to his parents, Scott was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Maness; stepdad, Stanley Pendowski; and brother Mark Pendowski.
