Melvin Mansfield Jr., 85, of Pine Knoll Shores, N.C., passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at his home.

Melvin was born on July 27, 1940, in Morehead City, North Carolina, to the late Melvin Sr. and Edna Mansfield. He was a proud graduate of West Carteret High School Class of 1958. He carried the friendships and memories from those years with him throughout his life.

A true outdoorsman, Melvin enjoyed hunting and clamming, often spending long days enjoying the natural beauty of the water and shoreline. He also had a passion for travel and loved the thrill of gambling, always embracing his fun side. Melvin loved shagging which showcased his dancing skills and love of music.

Melvin dedicated much of his professional life to the hospitality industry. He was the proud owner of the Ramada Inn and the Clam Digger Inn, where he built not only a successful business but also lasting relationships with guests and community members. He will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his love of laughter, and the many stories he shared with family and friends.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Julie of the home; daughters, Lana Mansfield (Christopher Ferri) of Emerald Isle, N.C., Jule Mansfield (James DeGuehery) of Morehead City, N.C.; sister, Kay House of Port St. Lucia, FL.; grandchildren, Cameron Ferri (Savanah Mitchell), Eliza Ferri; and great granddaughter, Elliana.

In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his brother, Doran Kilpatrick.
