Melissa Campbell, 56, of Havelock, NC, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023, at her home.
The family will celebrate Melissa’s life privately.
Melissa was born on June 6, 1967, in Stillwater, Minnesota, to the late Richard and Margaret Johnson.
Melissa was a reserved, smart, and very crafty person who took great care and enjoyment in her family and hobbies. She was far from a bore because it seemed like every time you saw her, she was either rosemaling, reading, crocheting with a cat on her lap, doing a puzzle, perfecting her needlepoint, playing on the computer, doing housework, cleaning her fish tank, playing with her grandson, petting her dogs, or working on polishing and shaping rocks out on the porch while listening to music.
Melissa had a very reserved and calm demeanor, but when she would laugh or smile, she was able to light up a room. Being reserved as she was, she had always seen herself as an observer and paid close attention to others around her. She showed her love, appreciation, and care for others by truly paying attention to them; no matter who they were.
Melissa was a rock for her family as well as for those that she had mentally adopted into her family, which wasn’t only cats and dogs, but humans too. When you talked to Melissa, you were able to feel her acceptance and kindness towards you while also trying not to laugh at her dry humor (which she always made herself laugh at her own jokes first). She was able to be so accepting because she took everyone at face value, no matter your story because she was very much a realist.
Melissa was an understanding wife, a caring mother, a fun-filled grandmother, and was everything to her friends and her family.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her husband, Christopher Campbell; daughters, Tasia Campbell and spouse Zachary Simmons, Margaret Campbell and partner James McCoy, all of Havelock, NC; sister, Elizabeth Hailstone of Park Rapids, MI; brother, David Johnson of Woodbury, MN; and grandson, Samuel Simmons.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), 424 E. 92nd St., New York, NY 10128.
