Newport

Maxine Hedman, 80, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

Maxine was born on November 9, 1943, in Kane, Pennsylvania, to the late Harry and June Baughman. She was a beloved school teacher who dedicated over 20 years to shaping the minds of many students. Maxine was known for her patience, kindness, and unwavering support for all those under her guidance. Her love for the Lord showed through in all she did.

In addition to her successful career in education, Maxine was a family-oriented individual who poured her heart into being a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and great-grandmother. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family as she generously volunteered at the Senior Center, leaving a positive impact on the community around her.

Maxine's sense of duty and commitment were further demonstrated through her membership in various veterans' organizations. She proudly served as an auxiliary member of VFW Posts 7315 and 8986, as well as being a member of AMVETS and the American Legion in Sugar Grove, PA.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mashell Holland and husband Wayne Price of Havelock; son, Mark Douglas Hedman of Newport and his wife Cheryl of Reidville, NC and daughter Ashley; son, Christopher Hedman;  grandson, Kyle Hedman; and great-child, Jackson Ryan Hedman.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Charles Hedman.
